Emergency Closure Policy and Procedure (from the Jan 2019 Newsletter)

The President, with input and in consultation with the Minister and key Board Members, including the Communications Chairperson, will make the decision to close the church building in the event of an actual need, and not for the sake of convenience. Every effort shall be made to give sufficient notice to all parties. Sufficient notice shall be defined as three hours before the start of a service, event, or program. This would typically be by 8:30 AM on a Sunday morning.

The President shall then notify the speaker (if applicable). In addition, he/she shall email the Board (Board@esuuc.org) and the Communications Committee (CommunicationsCommittee@esuuc.org). The Vice-President shall back-up the President in his/her absence.

A presenter cancelling shall not constitute an emergency; rather a Member volunteer shall facilitate a back-up or impromptu service.

These examples of a true emergency shall be used as a guide:

    • The building is without heat or water. “No electricity” in the warmer months shall not constitute an emergency.
    • The parking lot is subject to extreme icing. “Snow-covered” shall not constitute an emergency.
    • Official governmental travel restrictions are in place.

Upon notification, the Communications Committee will advise others of the cancellation in a prompt, timely manner via the following channels:

    • Facebook
    • Calendar on website
    • Email via eBlast

If key personnel on the Communications Committee cannot be located to send an eBlast, the Vice-President or Secretary have authorization to do so. The email address for this purpose is: esuuc_news@esuuc.org. In addition, these two officers shall assure that the following people are contacted via phone: (not listed)
