Connections with our fellow Unitarians in India- community that spans the world.

In northeast India, the Unitarian community now exceeds 10,000 members, but it started with just three people attending a service in 1887. Since that time, the Unitarian religion has strengthened the bonds among people in the very remote villages of the Khasi Hills and has promoted educational opportunities for their children. For 25 years, First Unitarian Church of Pittsburgh has nurtured a connection with our Khasi friends and has provided support to a school in the village of Kharang. Last November, Shelley visited the school and and was welcomed by students and staff, as well as our long-time friends, Nangroi Suting and Barri Mukhim. She will talk about the history of Unitarianism in the region and the resilience of this very welcoming community.
