Advent & Awe

Surprise and Subversion. Advent is about the coming of the divine into our lives, often unexpectedly. Dr. von Schlichten will be drawing from several religious traditions as he focuses on how the divine often surprises us and even empowers us to be subversive forces for political and social change for the better.

Hope in the Dark

It’s notable how several religions have intentional celebrations that cherish the light within this darkest season. As we explore the Soul Matters theme of awe in December, let’s reflect on the miracle of hope and the stories of hope and resilience that resonate with us during this season that can be difficult for many people.

Soul Matters: Attention

Brenda S presents our newest service from the popular “Soul Matters” curriculum. This month, we will address the question: “What does it mean to be a people of…Attention?” PLEASE NOTE: Stone Soup Sunday, which we customarily hold on this day, will be postponed due to building conditions.

Green Action

Colorism

IUP professor and artist, Ashley Jones will explain and explore African American women’s complex experience with historical standards of beauty, a controversial social phenomenon. Her January exhibit in Wilkinsburg featured 120 portraits of women.
