Crafting a Better World

Ever feel like yesou’re hanging on by a thread? From the climate crisis, to racism, to misogyny, to attacks on LGBTQ+ rights, the list of issues facing this country goes on and on, and it’s only natural to feel anxious about the state of our union. In this ESUUC TED Talk we will explore individuals whose call to action involves picking up knitting needles, embroidery hoops or sitting down at their sewing machine. These artists unite people through textiles and embroider, and combat frustration through the handmade. We will be viewing (our own) Julia Novak’s oral history of textile artist Kenall Ross in her short film, “Just a Napkin” currently on exhibit at The Holland Project Gallery in Reno, Nevada.
