Can Nature and Science be the Basis for a Personal Philosophy?

For many millennia, human beings have created stories to explain why the things we see in the world around us are the way they are. Because the world, the sky, and the heavens are so vast, these stories almost invariably involved a supernatural explanation–a god, a creator, or deity of some kind who had the knowledge and power to create such magnificence. These stories were often exciting, dramatic, and colorful, and sufficed for hundreds and thousands of years–but are they still sufficient
today? For our contemporary society, we may not require belief in the supernatural. This talk reflects
on the belief that nature and science can provide us with new explanations of, and a sound basis for,
an evidence-based way of living our lives.
